The one-inch (1:12) scale dollhouse miniature from Reutter Porzellan is a great collectible for a variety of settings from Victorian to contemporary. The pitcher is about 1" tall while the wash basin is about 1-1/8" in diameter and the hand towel is about 2" long (folded in half to hang from a rod or set alongside the ewer). The white porcelain pieces are decorated with the variations of the classic Dresden Rose pattern and rimmed in gold trim. This set includes:

Did you know that Victorian homes did not have running water until the 1880's? Before that even wealthier homes had no bathroom but washing was done at the wash-stand, which belonged in the bedroom or dressing room. The wash-stand was a wooden dresser with a polished marble top and a back surface quite often decorated with colorful ceramic tiles. A collection of china vessels including a ewer (jug) and basin like the one pictured here, a soap dish, shaving equipment, tooth brushes, and perhaps a brass can, filled by hand to supply hot water, stood on top.
In more contemporary times, many vintage and reproduction wash basins and ewers are used as decorative elements and often hold bouquets of flowers particularly in farmhouse design.
