Package contains eight 35" strips (two different profiles: one with a straight edge and a zig-zag edge; the other with a straight edge and a repeating half circle edge) of red asphalt shingles designed for use on a one-inch (1:12) scale structure like a garage, dollhouse, or barn. Once installed, AL4000 shingles create a delightful heart pattern. Great for decorative birdhouses too! Covers about one square foot.

The heart shaped shingles are installed much like any of the other asphalt shingles; however, you must pay close attention to the alignment of the heart points for the correct effect. The first row is also treated slightly differently from standard asphalt shingles. Check out our instructions for installing asphalt shingles and be sure to take a look at the second image included with this description illustrating aligning the heart points.
I typically install one strip (with the zig-zag edge) with its straight edge along the bottom edge of the roof (zig-zag pointing up) for my first row. Next I install another strip of the zig-zag profile with the pointed edge down on top and across the base row so that the points almost touch the roof edge. These two strips form the first row. Once the first row is installed, I measure up the roof in 1/2" increments and draw horizontal lines across the roof at each point. These lines serve as a guide for each row. ** Next I install the second row which is a strip of the repeating half circles with the points down making sure that every other point aligns with the "V" formed by the zig-zag strip. The third row is the zig-zag strip with the points down to form the bottom of the heart. Repeat from ** as you work your way up the roof.
